Security Design Engineer

ASD is actively looking for an experienced professional to fill an opening for a Security Systems Engineer. This position will aid in the design and implementation of large-scale security systems, including access control, CCTV, and intrusion detection. Candidate should have a technical degree (Preferably electrical engineering; relevant experience may also be taken into consideration). Experience in and knowledge of security technology is preferred.

Candidate should have a reasonable background in AutoCAD and technical drafting and should be eager and willing to learn new technologies and products. Primary responsibilities will be drawing support (creation and manipulation), system layout and design, system inspection after installation (project closeout), and communications between ASD and the client.

Candidate should be willing to work extended hours when necessary in a casual, autonomous atmosphere, and should be willing to travel infrequently.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Create/manipulate security engineering drawings (floor plans/device layout, architectural details)
  • Create/manipulate technical security drawings (circuit design and shop drawings)
  • Project management/coordination
  • Aid in specification writing
  • Evaluate bid submittals
  • Construction submittal review (including shop drawings)
  • Response to contractor RFIs
  • System closeout/inspections
  • Product research
  • Site visits (will require some travel)
  • Drawing plots
  • Other technical and administrative tasks as needed

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Experience in the design and/or installation of Security Systems (Alarms, Access Control, CCTV, Fire, etc.)
  • Technical degree (EE, ME, Electronics or equivalent)
  • Exposure to AutoCAD© R14 or greater
  • Project management
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
  • 4-6 years professional experience
  • People skills
  • Willingness to travel (~25%)

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • Experience with electric door hardware
  • AutoCAD© 2005 or AutoCAD© 2005 LT
  • Working knowledge of current security technologies
  • Knowledge of the CSI (Construction Standards Institute) Construction Process Standards
  • Experience in Microsoft Access, Project
  • 6-8 years professional experience
