Carlton College is an independent liberal arts colleges with approximately 1900 students located in Northfield, Minnesota. Early in 1993, Campus Crime Prevention Programs was engaged to complete a detailed security study of campus residential facilities. The study resulted in a recommendation to lock residence halls and control access — a marked change to the campus culture which at the time, maintained a completely open (unlocked) residential environment. CCPP actively assisted the College in this cultural change which included development of a major construction project to permit facilities locking and a controlled access system which was eventually extended to academic buildings and functions such as food service, library and vending operations.
