The Need for Campus Crime Prevention Training

 To be effective, campus crime prevention officers or specialists must possess a wide range of technical skills and programmatic knowledge seldom provided in traditional law enforcement training.  In addition, they need crime prevention training specific to the academic environment (residence hall security, campus security design standards, parking security, library security, etc.)  Colleges and universities have numerous unique crime prevention problems and concerns often not experienced in other elements of society.

Certification Seminar

 The 2008 Basic Campus Crime Prevention Certification Seminar is a comprehensive two-week training and certification program for campus law enforcement administrators and crime prevention officers.  The curriculum for this seminar includes each of the subjects necessary to qualify an individual as a certified campus crime prevention specialist. 

The two-week Basic Campus Crime Prevention Certification Seminar is presented by Campus Crime Prevention Programs is the most detailed and comprehensive campus crime prevention training program available in the nation.

Certified Campus Crime Prevention Specialist

 Individuals who attend and successfully complete this two-week training program will be certified by Campus Crime Prevention Programs (CCPP) as a Campus Crime Prevention Specialist.  Upon successful completion of the program, seminar participants will receive the following:

An inclusive notebook covering in detail every seminar topic area

A copy of the 2007 revised edition of The Law Enforcement Officer’s Complete Crime Prevention Manual

Free crime prevention technical assistance and support

A handsome laser-engraved certification plaque

Basic Seminar Details

 The 2008 Basic Campus Crime Prevention Certification Seminar will be presented in two segments or levels on May 5-16, 2008 at the Galt House Hotel  in Louisville, Kentucky. 

Attendance at the 2008 Basic Campus Crime Prevention Certification Seminar  is limited to 35 participants.  Passage of a written test covering all of the topic areas will be required for successful completion of the course.  Individuals who fail to  pass the comprehensive test will not be certified as a Campus Crime Prevention Specialist.

Who Should Attend the Seminar?

 The 2008 Basic Campus Crime Prevention Certification Seminar is intended for both campus law enforcement administrators and crime prevention officers or specialists.  The training program will provide campus law enforcement administrators with the specialized knowledge and information they need to manage and supervise a campus crime prevention program.  Campus crime prevention officers and specialists who successfully complete this program will be able to effectively carry out and complete comprehensive crime prevention responsibilities.

Seminar Faculty

  • Mr. Daniel P. Keller, Executive Director, Campus Crime Prevention Programs

Mr. Keller has been directly involved in the administration and coordination of campus crime prevention programs since 1971.  He has written extensively about campus crime prevention, produced numerous training videotapes and lectured at crime prevention seminars and workshops throughout North America.
 

  • Mr. William Carcara, CPP, Assistant Director, American Crime Prevention Institute

Mr. Carcara is the retired Chief of Police of the 500-officer Jefferson County, Kentucky Police Department.  He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the National Crime Prevention Institute and a Certified Protection Professional (CPP).

  • Mr. James G. Elder, CPP, Senior Crime Prevention and Protection Professional

Mr. Elder is an acknowledged authority in the area of physical and electronic security systems for colleges and universities. He is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) a frequent campus crime prevention lecturer and consultant.

  • Mr. Timothy D. Crowe, Criminologist and CPTED Specialist

Mr. Crowe is a practicing criminologist and widely recognized as the nation’s foremost authority on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).

How Much Does the Seminar Cost?

The cost for each of the ten-day segments of the 2008 Basic Campus Crime Prevention Certification Seminar is $1,050.00.  If more than one person from the same campus law enforcement agency attends the seminar, the cost for each participant for the two-week seminar is $950.00.  This includes registration fee, extensive handout material, certification plaque, and daily refreshment breaks.  It does not include travel, lodging or other food expenses.

Where Will the Seminar be Held?

All of the classroom training sessions for the 2008 Basic Campus Crime Prevention Certification Seminar will be held at the Galt House Hotel  in Louisville.  The Galt House Hotel  is located in downtown Louisville on the banks of the Ohio River.  Room rates for the Galt House Hotel are $80.00 for both single and double occupancy. 

Seminar participants should make their own room reservations at the Galt House Hotel by calling 502/589-5200 at least three weeks prior to the seminar.

Registration Details

To register for the 2008 Basic Campus Crime Prevention Certification Seminar, complete the online registration form or print the form and return it to Campus Crime Prevention Programs, 327 Townepark Circle, Louisville, Kentucky 40245.  A check, purchase order or credit card authorization in the amount of $1,050.00 (or $950.00 if more than one from the same department attends) should accompany the registration form.  When the registration form is received, a confirmation letter and further information about the seminar will be forwarded
